From the first email to Chitty Hire we knew we were in safe hands. Rob's knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm to all things Chitty is incredible.
We initially booked the cars to go with our already hired set and we then added the props and wardrobe package, alongside hiring the car for a promotional event (that really made people stop!) It really does bring the extra wow factor.
He is so knowledgeable and extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Every query and question was answered promptly and he was so accommodating of all our requests, even having new costumes made as they were needed!
Our production would not have been half the success without everything we hired from Chitty Hire and we would recommend them to anyone considering performing Chitty.

Having recently had the privilege of playing Caractacus Potts, I experienced first hand the beautiful Chitty hire set, props and costumes. Rob's passion and knowledge about the show made such a difference when he was briefing us all on how to make best use out of all of the props. And the car - I don't really know what to say - the car was absolutely beautiful, and something I will never forget. Attention to detail like I've never seen before. Every interaction we had with Rob was nothing other than positive - nothing was ever a problem, and Rob never hesitated to go above and beyond to make sure that we, and our audiences, could experience the full magic of Chitty on the stage! We used Rob and his fantastic set for our production in March at the gala theatre,
Durham. In all my years doing productions and school shows, I have never seen a more beautiful set! It is nostalgia filled if you love the show and the movie and the detail is incredible. The set fully elevated our production in more ways than one! We were also delighted with the efficient way Rob and his team supported the get in and communication throughout in the lead up to the show was superb! Fully recommend!!

I have recently (Jan 2026) directed a production and hired from them for the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car, all staging, hand props and costumes.
From start to finish. The process has been easy, stress free and very professional throughout.
The quality of the set and props is insane. Such high quality and the attention to detail is phenomenal. He even provided us with 1-2-1 tuition on how to use them effectively and smoothly on the day of an arrival.
As a director’s perspective, I cannot falter the process at all. It made the staging so much easier with the knowledge that Rob and his team had our best interests at heart.
If you’re performing anything Chitty Chitty Bang Bang related, then you needn’t look at any other company than this! I cannot recommend highly enough

What can I say? We were honoured to have Chitty visit us today at The Hildreds Shopping Centre in Skegness and it was by far the best event we have ever staged. The car itself is simply iconic and Rob was a gentleman, he couldn’t have done more for us or had been more helpful if he had tried. I have never, in my 37 years of working at the centre ever experienced grown adults so emotional about meeting their childhood hero - Chitty is simply beautiful. We had the privilege of using ChittyHire’s stage Chitty for our recent production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at The Kings Theatre in Portsmouth.
From first communication to last, Rob was positive, helpful and passionate about the car and the show ... and working with him on this process was a total joy.
Rob and Emma gave excellent, thorough training to our crew at the beginning of our production week and contributed to a wonderfully positive working atmosphere on a busy but hugely productive Get-In day.
Chitty herself is, quite simply, a work of art ... the beauty and detail with which she has been constructed is testament to the skill and passion involved.
She delighted our sold-out audiences throughout the run, inspiring rapturous applause and cheers on her first appearance and on her stunning flights - whilst she was every bit as much of a hit with our cast and crew.
The sheer quality of this stage Chitty car made it very easy (as Caractacus Potts) to believe in her and to establish a relationship with her that was a big part of the very special experience that we had with her and with the show. Magical is the only word that comes close to summing things up.
This was, in all, an unforgettable experience and I am so grateful to Rob for entrusting us with Chitty's care across a wonderfully memorable week.

Rob (ChittyHire) and Chitty herself visited Ireland and both won their way into our hearts! Rob was so helpful and supportive in the pre-production stages…and then Chitty herself arrived on the scene! “Wow” (the very first lyric of the show was so apt!) She is so much more than a prop…she has a personality that transcends the mechanical manifestation! Our audiences fell in love with her.
Rob and Chitty are a must for your production of CCBB. A winner! You’d be mad not to avail of their services! We got the full ChittyHire package and we were thrilled with the myriad of items that arrived. A 40 foot truck, filled with the most magical pieces….far too many to mention…but all replicas from the film. Spectacular!

We hired Chitty for our wedding as it’s been an absolute favourite of mine and a childhood dream! Rob was amazing and stuck it out in the appalling weather conditions (extreme rain!) The guests were still able to enjoy the car as Rob provided a gazebo and lights. She was truly admired on the day and was my favourite part of our wedding. Chitty is phenomenal, the large groups that surrounded her all day show just what a crowd pleaser she is! The attentional to detail is spectacular (the CCBB engine noise is a personal favourite) We now have one extremely excited cast & audience ready to see her fly into the Cresset in October.

Rob has created a simply fantasmagorical stage version of Chitty - it looks incredible on stage and didn't fail to generate significant applause every night when she was revealed.
The detailing is amazing, from the overall dimension ratios to the signature horn, picnic basket etc. She looked amazing even before we'd lit and staged around her.
The wheels turn on command, the headlights sparkle and the DMX-controllable face lighting works a treat. As she flies and the wings unfurl it really is an amazing effect, especially when you consider the range of theatres that this car has to work in.
The flying mechanism takes some getting used to, but is ultimately intuitive and simply takes a little rehearsal to set in the required time.
Rob was helpful throughout; providing the information we needed as requested, delivering the car personally, training the crew in her use and even sorting some minor cosmetic damage mid-run for us.
We also used Chitty Hire's other items, the Wreck, Grandpa's fully LOLER-tested Shed and the Childcatcher's Wagon - all of which looked impeccable.
Cannot recommend the company and their magical creations enough - what every production of Chitty requires to help WOW the audience.

CCBB is iconic and copying the film car into scaled down version for the stage has to be spot on. It's either right or wrong and there is no "well it's not a bad likeness...."
The Chittyhire car looks perfect and wows the audience every time. The mechanics are simple but do pretty much everything the script requires... The driving is spot on and the flying works really well ... The JADC in Jersey hired the car for our production in July 2018 and it was every bit as good as we could have hoped for! Very many thanks to Rob for such a wonderful creation.
Anyone doing CCBB needs to hire this car - you won't be disappointed!
